What was their name?

Well this is the last blog post, it’s been such a fast semester. I’m glad for classes to be over however I enjoyed this class. It defiantly has been a lot of writing however its been writing that deals more with us being creative and really finding out how much our writing has improved over the semester.  Blog posts I have to say have been my least favorite highly due to the fact that I always forgot to post on the blog. Future advice for the class is to make the class come together more as a group. I cant say I even remember the girls names on the other side of the room. Overall it was a great English 1050 class.

Red Wings + Exams = xD

Well its the final week of normal classes and all my professors feel the need to have five exams this week. Not including along with the final folder due in this class. It’s kind of a lot to have on my plate during this last week. I have three exams tomorrow and the red Wings hockey game is on tonight. Which will be my major distraction seems how its the fourth game and they are 1-2 which they need to win this game. I'm sure I will study before, during and after the game though. I can’t wait for this semester to be over with! Bring on summer!

Going home?

Well its almost the end of summer, and classes are starting to pile on the homework. Its two weeks left until we leave for summer. I'm in a hurry to be able to finish on a good foot, however I can't say that I’m excited to go home all summer. Four months of listening to my mother again will be a rough change. We come to college and become so independent, then we go back and she thinks that I cant still make decisions on my own.  I wish summer was only a month and then classes started again, however I’m just going to take classes at home and get a different job! I'm excited to go home, just not excited for the amount of time im going to be there.

Cinderella.

My original text is Cinderella Fairy tale by The Grimm Brothers.
My familiar gene is a Facebook website that is an update representative of Cinderella.

Cinderella's Facebook
My unfamiliar gene is going to be a personal ad in which the step mother is looking for men for her daughters.
Personal AD

Picking these two genes really have me excited to do this English Project. The purpose of the Facebook page is to show a more updated version of what Cinderella would be like if she had a Facebook. I'm going to use it as a time line throughout her story. The audience of this would be 13+ due to the fact that's the age at which most kids have Facebook.  The media design of this is going to be a website.
The purpose of the Personal Ad is the fact during the whole story the Evil step mom is looking for a man to date her daughters. The personal ad is towards an older audience, the media and design of this is going to be print, and a lot of working with formatting.

With Facebook i haven't decided if I'm going to just make a page for Cinderella or if im going to make a page for both the Prince and Cinderella. With the personal ad its going to be each one for each of the girls. In desperate cries for the step mom in finding them a man.

Corrections.

A suggestion that was given to me about my paper was not to use I believe or I think in my paper. I have now taken out all the I’s and made sure that I still voice my opinion without having to say I believe or I think which was weakling my paper. I also have to make sure that my ethos pathos and logos weren’t all clumped together. There was also a suggestion to work on my sentence phrasing so tonight I have reread it out loud in hopes to find awkward phrases. I also have a writing center appointment to help with the odds and ends of my paper.

Spring Into the Streets!

This Saturday I have been looking forward to all week! This Saturday I will be doing spring into the streets with the CAB team. Spring into the streets is a volunteer based program that allows us to give back to our community by volunteering our Saturday afternoon to fix up Kalamazoo. They give us site projects like painting a fence or picking up trash and we work together to complete it. I’m really excited to know that I get to help Kalamazoo out and work with the people I love to be around. Its my first time doing this type of activity within the Kalamazoo area, but I have done things like this before back at home. And you always get to go home with dirty hands, a big smile and an accomplished feeling.

Horton Hears a Who outline

Michele E Wagner
Analysis Outline
March 27, 2012
Horton Hears A Whobook by Dr. Seuss and Film directed by Jimmy Hayward, Steve Martino

Horton Hears a Who is about an Elephant whose name is Horton; during the day he finds this floating speck that has a town of people on it. He goes through this journey to save the speck along the way having conflicts come into his way which he has to over come to help save Who’s-vile. Horton gets a lot of grief about talking to the clover that’s carrying the speck. During all of this the town is getting shaken up and ruined while the journey with Horton happens. The kangaroo tells Horton there isn’t anything on that speck and he’s crazy in the head. The monkeys steal the clover and then the eagle drops it into a field of clovers. Horton spends all day looking until he finds the speck. The kangaroo then see’s that Horton has found the speck again and she has the Wickersham monkeys tie him up. Then they say their going to burn the clover with the speck on it. Horton tells the whole Who-vile to yell as loud as they can. They try and try but then the major learns that his son Jojo isn’t yelling, once he does they finally get the kangaroo to hear the speck. Then she agrees she’s going to help protect the speck too.

The purpose of Horton Hears a Who is mainly entertainment that encloses teaching of the moral of the movie and book. The audience of this book and movie is mainly aimed at children however with the actors of the movie and the fact it’s a Dr. Seuss book I believe it does make it more acceptable for any age to be interested. I loved the book and movie but I don’t think its aimed towards my age group. The tone of this book and movie is more of a caring feeling. Horton always shows the soft side even though everyone finds him crazy. The tone is also energetic and happy. The designs of the two texts are extremely different the book keeps it rather simple only using white, blues and peach. While the movie is bright colors.

The ethos, pathos and logos of Horton Hears a Who book and movie, helps explain the creditability, emotion and logic of the book and movie. The Ethos of the movie is the fact that its Jim Carrey and Steve Carell. The ethos of book is the fact that the author of this book is Dr. Seuss. The emotion of the movie is both about Horton and mainly more focused on the Major and the conflicts and emotions of Who-vile. The Logos of the movie would be the fact that Jojo doesn’t think that he really matters, but once he finally yells at the end its what breaks the sound barrier. The book logos are the moral they show that just because you can’t see something doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist.

       I.            Jimmy Hayward, Steve Martino Horton Hears a Who successfully transforms Dr. Seuss Horton Hears a Who.

a.

II.            The scenes where Horton talks to the major and all of who-ville is the same.

a.       “I know its too small to be seen, but I’m major of a town that’s friendly and clean.” (pg. 21)

b.      The crash due to the drop of the eagle was the same effects.

III.            Both the book and the movie people thought Horton was crazy

a.       “I think you’re a fool!” laughed the sour kangaroo.(13)

b.      “For almost two days you’ve run wild and insisted on chatting with persons who’ve never existed.”(35)

IV.            Horton has the strong urge to protect who-ville in both the book and movie

a.       When the eagle dropped the clover into the clover field he spends all day looking for it, yet he never gives up on who-ville.

b.      Even though everyone thinks hes gone crazy he still persists on saving the speck.

    V.            Conclusion.

What happens if the chicken crosses the road?

Blog posts have been harder to write at the semester has went on, more than just hard to write its extremely hard to remember!  However somehow I found myself looking at the dumb facts of other states, In Quitman, Georgia, it is illegal for chicken to cross the road. Every man in Brainerd, Minnesota is required by law to grow a beard and it's illegal to sleep naked. The most entertaining part is that there are people who have to follow these laws.  What would happen if a chicken did cross the road? Does it get a ticket? Or go to jail?

Change is the only Constant

Alvin and the chipmunks used to be called, Alvin, Simon and Theodore. The Three Chipmunks. Comparing the old comic characters to the updated one in the movies there are a lot of differences. Their outfits have all changed; Theodore gained some weight. While Simon apparently had a hard time seeing and needed glasses. The only thing that’s still the same is the A on Alvin’s shirt was carried over into his new character. Personally in the comic its hard to tell the difference between Theodore and Simon by looking at the characters. Now that they’ve changed the features its easier to distinguish.

He doesn't have much of a reputation or so I've heard.

Warm seventy-degree weather only makes me think of one thing, the Detroit Tigers baseball team. I can’t wait until this summer comes so I can attend the Tiger games with friends. For me I’ve never been one big on sports however I adore the Tigers baseball team. My favorite player is Rick Porcello, granted I always get a lot of crap for liking him as a pitcher compared to liking Justin Verlander. Plus who wouldnt root for a guy that looks like Porcello does! There’s something about a warm summer day rooting in the stands of the Tigers.  I hope we go just as far as we did last season. Detroit teams are stepping their game up!

House

Ethos is the credibility. The credibility in house would be the actors such as Dr House. The logos is the logic to the show, is when they actually deal with the patients and diagnose them. Pathos is the emotion appeal, so in the show house it would be the fact it has a sense of mystery or suspense to it when they misdiagnose a patient that’s close to death. It also has a funny sense of humor, Dr. House is extremely sarcastic. I believe with all three of  these components is what really makes it a great show.

Go Broncos!

Being home for spring break wasn’t my idea of a spring break, when most of my college friends were flying to Florida or taking road trips. Granted I would have loved to go somewhere warmer for spring break. After getting back from North Carolina for a week I was glad to be at my own house. I defiantly didn’t get enough homework done that I needed to.  But that’s okay, I seen a few of my best friends and spent some well needed time with my family. I leave tomorrow, however I am excited to get back to Kalamazoo because they have two important hockey games this weekend. So hopefully they win tonight. And then I’ll get to see them kick butt tomorrow too! :D

We take fun seriously

During my national conference in North Carolina I had a blast, I got to meet a lot of people like; Matt Roloff from “Little People Big World”, Raven Symoné from “That’s so Raven”, we also had Bowling for Soup to perform for us. However my favorite was having Andy Grammer preform for us. He sings the song “Gotta Keep Your Head Up” Overall my whole trip to North Carolina was amazing. It was so beautiful there while everyone else had snow in Michigan, it was entertaining to come back to sun at Kalamazoo! Now its spring break and I get to do all of my homework that I’ve missed over the days I was at the conference. I have to say that it was defiantly worth it!

Two Worlds Collide

Outline:
·      Two characters,
o   Erickson Martin: He is in his late 20’s he’s was on this flight because there had been a small opening and he took the last ticket. It had only been chance that he got that ticket. He was on his way home to see his mother. He had been gone for about three years out of state and way coming home to visit.  He was tall, slender with freckles and wore glasses yet preferred contacts. He had brown hair and it was always messy as if he had gotten outta the shower and never brushed it.
o   Muhammad Atta’s: Scruffy looking face, tanned Muslim skin color.

·      The story will begin with both of them, preparing for the fight that morning/ Or why they were flying that morning.
·      They will bump into each other a few times throughout the story.
o   Airport baggage, going to take their seats, bathroom, and terrorist part
·      It will come down to the last few minutes of chaos on the plane.
·      Crash.

Don't look down.

Well, I believe these last few days are going slower than ever, I leave Friday and I feel like time isn’t even moving. I have enough homework to last me a lifetime so maybe it’s a good thing that times moving slow. I have four exams, worksheets, a rough draft, work and laundry to get done before I leave. This is like a never ending tunnel; well at least on the other end is sixty degree weather, another state and tons of fun to be had. I cannot wait to leave Friday; however I do find it ironic that im writing my paper about the hijacking of September 11th, 2001 and I’m riding the plan for the first time Friday. I've always found movies funny when they get stuck next to that one person during a flight, I hope its not me. Wish me luck, this should be entertaining, seems how im terrified of heights.

Rebel without a cause.

Murphy, Tom. Reclaiming The Sky. New York: AMACOM, 2007. Print.

Reclaiming the sky is mainly about the story of the day before September 11, 2001 and the two days following the event. It describes the scene of all the planes, and the confusion among the workers in charge of the airport. It does a great job following the story of terrorists on and off the plane, the great detail that they had known to plan this whole thing.  This is a great primary source to use for my research paper due to the fact it has a lot of when, where the planes took off and the times.  It has a lot of people who were there when things had happen.

Valentine’s Day, or is it a Hallmark day?

Valentine’s Day is a day that all the single people freak out and get all sad that they don’t have anyone to share it with. Then they do nothing but bash the fact that “Valentine’s Day is a stupid holiday.” Since when did this holiday have to become so depressing? Who cares if your single, today everyone is so concerned with being in a relationship with someone that we make being single on Valentine’s Day a horrible thing. We put so much focus on finding love from other people. Since when did we get so obsessed with fat chubby baby with an arrow shooting people, getting flowers and candy? My view on Valentine’s Day is that it should be a day that you take that time to remind the ones you love that they mean a lot to you, family, and friends and maybe if you have a special someone. It’s not about having a Valentine, it’s about reminding people that you care about them and love them, in general not just ones you’re dating. Just because you may not have anyone to share it with doesn’t mean you should celebrate it.

One step forward. Two steps backward.

My historical event is September 11, to be surprised I thought I had known a decent amount when it came to this event. Like I know it happened in New York City. It ended up taking down the twin towers, and it killed a lot of people when it happened. It also has affected our citizens and daily life to this day, loss of ones, airplane security. I still need to find out a lot about this event, like the whys it happened behind it. The exact times of each plane hitting. Small facts like the way the weather was outside, what jobs are inside those buildings. I need to know how many people were on the flights, what the flights looked like. Where the planes were flying from or where the final destination was. I will need to research the terrorists on the planes, know what they looked like, their names how they got on the plane. My keywords for looking up research will be September 11th, twin towers, plane hijacking, terrorists, airport security before September 11th, and World Trade Center.
I’m writing a man that was boarding the plane that flew into the twin towers. He is in his late 20’s he’s was on this flight because there had been a small opening and he took the last ticket. His mother had called him five times in the last two days telling him how excited she was that he was coming to visit and what she planned on cooking.

Moving forward in reverse.

What makes you smile? Like the kind of smile where you having the worst day, just failed an exam, tripped up the stairs and spilled ketchup on your lap at lunch. For me, I love when you see that 85 year old couple holding hands. When you’re walking into a building and someone stands there waiting for you holding the door open. Going to dinner and the café is serving something good! When you’re walking to class and that cute song pops up on Pandora. Finding, old money in your pocket, when you go to do your laundry. When that cute boy offers to teach you pool. Getting, the last set of sour gummy worms out of the vending machine. Getting I miss you mail from friends and home. When your fat hamster sits on her wheel and eats. What makes you smile?

They say it's not as bad as they say it is.

Coming to college some of us get home sick, some of us miss our pets, family, and friends that we left behind. Eventually most of us just learn to cope with being away from home, others visit home frequently. I have only gone home three times since college started all together. There are a few things I miss like having my little annoying brother around all the time, good cooked meals, being able to have my car to drive and a big one is being around kids, like I have been all my life. I worked at a daycare, I also volunteered for three years at a kindergarten class two times a week after school. Those kids were so cute, and I loved watching them progress over the year. I can still remember most of the kids through the three years. My favorite part of the year was field day, I always got permission to skip classes and help out at the elementary school. The kids would do simple fun tasks like tug a war, hoola hooping, dancing, soccer and every sports rated game possible. At the end of the long day the kids would lay in the grass exhausted with popsicle stained shirts. That is one thing I took for granted that I defiantly miss.  Those kids always made you leave with a smile on your face, no matter if you had the worst day at school or failed a test. Guess I could use that while at college when I fail and exam

Seriously, you need to lighten up.

I woke up with the birds that morning, boarded the train that stopped right in Kalamazoo, then I had to call a taxi. Twenty minutes later he showed up, now we’ve all seen those movies where the taxis are yellow and you get in the back seat and address him where you need go. I had never ridden in a taxi before, so I just assumed that’s what I was looking for. No it was a rusty, green, minivan. I got in to see  first observing what the driver looked, he was a large man who smelled as if he had drank to many beers at poker night, the night before and ate to much garlic  bread. His car smelled of smoke and looked as if he had kids with how much food was covering the floor. After getting overcharged I had arrived at the campus….

Common sense is not so common.

Ever have something simple that drives you crazy? I feel like we’re all blessed everyday with that special someone in our life, that you image in your head slapping them with a dead fish. Wither you live with them as your roommate, a friend, or just met them once. My favorite thing to ask someone is “what’s your pet peeve?” We’ll I thought it would be fun to ask everyone at work what their pet peeve is while I check them in. Let’s find out how many things bug people.

1.       People who smack their gum in their mouth with the gum they asked you for.
2.       When guys sag their pants.
3.       Someone saying “Like” too much when talking to them.
4.       When roommate eats your chips and leaves them open to get stale.
5.       Going to do laundry and the coin machine is out.
6.       People who have pet peeves!
7.       When you get the retarded cart at the store
8.       Students who prolong class over the time by asking stupid questions.
9.       Fire Drills during my nap
10.   Teachers who waste my time when they aren’t prepared.
11.    Someone who has a sniffling nose during exams.
12.   Boys who eat like they haven’t eaten in years.
13.    When football players are cocky, and they sit on the bench.
14.   When people wear suits too small.
15.   Walking behind slow walkers when you’re late for class.

What did I tell you last time about not listening?

There lived a young girl, she had always listened to what everyone told her to do, get good grades, clean your room, and go to church. She always followed everyone’s direction when it came to life decisions, what car to buy, what college to go to. Finally one day the girl got sick of listening to what everyone else thought she should do. She finally made the decision to go to a college that was almost four hours away from her town. She was ready to leave by the time, college had arrived. She went four hours away, and was so excited to be on her own for once, no parents telling her what she could and couldn’t do. At first it was a lot for her, she was always taught how to be independent but never required to be independent She thought going off to college was going to be great, free time, doing as she pleased, friends and of course classes.. It’s almost been six months since she’s left home, it has been lots of fun but she never would have thought that a huge reason of picking her college for the distance would become the only reason why she didn’t like it. She learned that making your own decisions are great, however the big ones should take more time and really think about the pros and cons.

‎Good judgement comes from experience, & experience comes from bad judgement.

When opportunity comes knocking at the door do you answer? What if it requires other things to be put on hold while doing so? I applied to go to NACA National Conference, not exactly thinking I would get in. They only choose four people, because they pay to fly you to North Carolina, and your hotel. So I mainly applied not to have any regrets. Well strange to my surprise I got the honor of attending the conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. Well the only thing slowing down my excitement is of course I would have to have classes that have exams while gone those days. The fact that this is an amazing opportunity made it hard to say no.  So I guess when it comes down to it, I applied so I wouldn’t have any regrets, so I guess I should also go so I don’t have any either! Now to figure out the class crap, hopefully they get a snowday? Haha

Talk less. Say more.

Long ago, in a house just off a river lived a man. He wasn’t the average type of man, he was only born with one tooth, he was taller than average. His name was frank and he had lived alone all his life however the day he was born he was told that he had powers. Frank had the ability to tell when someone’s tooth had fallen out. Well Frank had always been fascinated with teeth ever since he was little and only had one tooth. Frank decided it was going to be his job to go collect these teeth from people after they had thrown them away.  Frank would wait until the child was sleeping and go into their house and get their tooth. Well Frank didn’t like to steal so when taking the tooth he would leave a quarter, just so he felt like he had paid for their tooth.  After a while Frank loved doing this, he had so many teeth! Frank had seen a newspaper one day that explained that kids were beginning to calling him the Tooth fairy! He was so excited it made him feel like he was important. One morning Frank had awoken after a long night of collecting teeth to find a set of wings on his back! Well Frank wasn’t sure why he had wings but later that night when a little boy was asleep he flew to his house in a jiffy and got the tooth. Frank LOVED his wings; he started collecting teeth from all over the place! Frank was bored one day and decided he was going to count all the teeth he had, a few days later he had come to the conclusion that he had collected at least 66,884,585,218,216,155,785,335 teeth. He then realized that maybe counting teeth wasn’t a good idea anymore. Now when you lose a tooth you’re told to leave it under your pillow. Frank will come at night and get your tooth and leave you money!

Hello,
I’m pretty sure I stared at this blank post for about five minutes wondering what I was going to say. Introductions seem to be my least favorite, seems how you always say the general things; your favorite color, animal, tv show or something along those lines. We’ll I don’t have a favorite color, food or T.V show.  I am extremely indecisive about things, I hate picking where to go to eat, or what movie were going to see.  My names Michele Wagner, I’m a freshman in field of nursing (for now anyways). I have a turtle named Fatzilla. I love tennis, fishing, drawing and going to hockey games!

& I love Oxymorons :)

http://www.tree.com/education/blog-blog/archive-2011-04-08-pros-and-cons-of-working-while-in-college.aspx

I read a blog about the pros and cons of working while in college.  The genre would be a blog, I would personally classify it as academic, due to the fact it was informational. The purpose of the blog was to help students realize that benefits and disadvantages of having a job while in college. The blog explains how to pick a job that's going to benefit you in the future. The audience was aimed towards college students, with or without jobs. The stance was informational with a friendly tone. The media is electronic. Design is rather simple with bullet points outlining the facts.
